Root Length Density Coefficient

Parent Previous Next

Root length density (cm cm-3) is initialized at each soil layer to a minimum value through a species parameter (RLVmin) and it is assumed decreasing at each time step of 0.5% due to respiration and/or senescence. The daily increment (cm cm-3 d-1) is expressed as:

where RLVin_i (cm cm-3) is the root length density referred to the i-th layer at the beginning of the day, and the root length density (RLDCi) and mass balance coefficients (RMBAL, cm cm-2) are respectively:

where the root length density coefficient includes the possible effect of the anaerobic or water stresses by means of the SAFi and SWDFi multiplication factors, at each soil layer.
