The remaining fraction of aerial dry mass is complementary partitioned to non-stalk mass. The latter is in turn divided between tops (i.e., living biomass) and trash dry masses (t ha-1), the latter being defined only when non-stalk dry matter is larger than a minimum value (Jones, 2012):
where NSK (t ha-1) is non-stalk aerial dry mass, AV_DEADL and AV_TNLF are respectively the numbers of dead and total leaves per tiller average out on all cohorts.
