Since in the photosynthesis process, CO2 is reduced to carbohydrates (CH2O) using the energy supplied by the absorbed light, the gross daily CO2 assimilation rate (see topics Daily gross assimilation and Temperature limitation) is converted in gross daily CH2O assimilation rate. In particular, for each kg of CO2 absorbed, 30/44 kg of CH2O is formed, that are the numerical values representing the molecular weights of CH2O and CO2 respectively.
So, the resulting gross daily CH2O assimilation rate is:
where AssCH20 is daily gross CH2O assimilation rate (kg ha-1 d-1) and Asstot,t is daily total gross CO2 assimilation rate with temperature limitation (kg ha-1 d-1).
Then, for integrating the gross daily assimilation rates (for CO2 and CH20) into the state variables, the following equations are applied:
where Asstot,T,s is daily total gross CO2 assimilation state with temperature limitation at time step s (kg ha-1 d-1), Asstot,T,s-1 is daily total gross CO2 assimilation rate with temperature limitation at time step s-1 (kg ha-1 d-1) and Asstot,t is daily total gross CO2 assimilation rate with temperature limitation (kg ha-1 d-1).
where AssCH20,s is daily total gross CH2O assimilation state with temperature limitation at time step s (kg ha-1 d-1), AssCH20,s-1 daily total gross CH2O assimilation state with temperature limitation at time step s-1 (kg ha-1 d-1) and AssCH20 is gross daily CH2O assimilation rate (kg ha-1 d-1).
