A pathosystem-specific approach to estimate disease onset of blast disease on rice (causal agent Magnaporthe oryzae) is implemented in the InoculumPressure component (Kim, 2000). It estimates the progress rate of conidiophore formation as a function of hourly air temperature and relative humidity.
The progress rate of inoculum formation (IPrate, °C h-1) is computed when air relative humidity is above 93% as:
where Th is hourly air temperature (°C).
The reciprocal of daily IPrate, obtained as the sum of hourly IPrate was then accumulated (IPstate, °C d-1) until a threshold of hydro-thermal time is reached, in order to trigger the disease onset.
