Meristematic apex height

The height of the meristematic apex is a key variable for many processes (including spikelet sterility). It allows get the correct temperature (at the meristematic apex height) from the TRIS micro-meteorological model (Confalonieri et al., 2005b). TRIS allows the crop model to simulate crop growth, spikelet sterility, etc. taking into account floodwater effect on the vertical thermal profile.

Height of the plant meristematic apex (H, cm) is given by:

where Hmax (cm) is cultivar-specific maximum height input parameter, DVS is daily development stage decimal code, 1.60 and 1.90 represent, respectively, panicle initiation and heading development stages.
