SLA based leaf area expansion

For each time step, two methods for calculating leaf area index (LAI, m2 m-2) are applied, (i) exponential (see topic Exponential leaf area expansion) and (ii) based on specific leaf area (SLA, m2 kg-1), according to the development stage. 

The SLA-based calculation of LAI rate follows. Firstly a value of SLA is calculated according to the development stage code using an AFGEN table. Then this equation is applied:

where LAIr is leaf area index rate (m2 m-2), LeavesAGBd is the above ground biomass partitioned to leaves (kg m-2 day-1) and SLA is specific leaf area (m2 kg-1).
