Vapour pressure deficit sporulation

The simulation of the sporulation efficiency as driven by temperature and vapour pressure deficit implements a beta response function to temperature (Yan and Hunt, 1999) and a logistic response function to vapour pressure deficit, formalized as:

where SPOVPDeff is the sporulation efficiency as a function of vapour pressure deficit (%), VPD is the vapour pressure deficit (KPa), a and b are derived as:



where VPDmin is the value of VPD at the optimum temperature for sporulation (i.e., the value at which the sporulation efficiency is maximum and VPDmax is the maximum value of VPD at which the sporulation starts to take place at the optimum temperature for sporulation. The two parameters VPDmin and VPDmax have to be determined for each pathosystem.
