Leaves photosynthetic area

Considering the leaf area index rate (LAIr m2 m-2, see topic Leaf area expansion) and the limitations due to senescence and self shading (see topic Leaves death), the actual green leaf area index, that is the leaves photosynthetic area can be calculated as:

where GLAI is daily rate of green leaf area index (m2 m-2), LAItot is daily leaf area index rate (m2 m-2) and LAIdead is daily rate of dead leaf area index (m2 m-2).

Then, by integrating this rate, the daily value of green leaf area index results:

where GLAIs is daily state of green leaf area index at time step s (m2 m-2), GLAIs-1 is daily state of green leaf area index at time step s-1 (m2 m-2) and GLAI is daily rate of green leaf area index (m2 m-2).
