Dry weight of living leaves can be calculated using partitioning factors to roots and leaves (see topic Partitioning factors) and total biomass rate (see topic Total biomass rate).

Firstly the available aboveground biomass rate is calculated with the equation:



where Babove is the daily available aboveground biomass rate (Kg ha-1 d-1), Proots is partitioning factor of roots (unitless) and Btot is the total biomass rate of the crop (Kg ha-1 d-1).

Then, the dry weight of living leaves is calculated according to the equation:



where Blivleaves is daily rate of dry weight of living leaves (Kg ha-1 d-1), Babove is the daily available aboveground biomass rate (Kg ha-1 d-1) and Pleaves is partitioning factor of leaves (unitless).
